About Dora's Mission
I strive to be a “creative force for good” in this world, and I have made it my mission to use my art to support conservation efforts in order to protect the environment that inspired me to become an artist in the first place. When I first partnered with Friends of Rookery Bay I was fortunate enough to accompany a nest monitoring crew, and for the first time in my life I was able to see hatchlings in the wild! It is an experience I will never forget. Seeing with my own eyes how tiny and helpless they are made me want to do whatever I could to help give them a fighting chance. That's why I am so proud to present to you this special collection of artwork. With every purchase, you are making a difference! Thank you for helping me support our local wildlife and their habitats.

About the Collection
I believe that art has the power to make the world a happier place. My goal with this collection was to share my delight in the underwater world and these incredible creatures, by telling a story with color and pattern, and by finding a unique balance between realistic representation and playful abstraction.
I am also intrigued by the concept of finding beauty in imperfection. My process reflects this, as my first step is usually to make a mess! Loose and lively brushwork, splatters, drips… Once those dry, I ask myself, “What can I use here, and what should I cover up?” Often, it feels much like putting a puzzle together. The fast drying time of acrylic paint allows me to freely explore my subject by building quick layers. This involves simplifying the form down to its most basic shapes, then building patterns and details from there by combining what I see with what I imagine. The result is a somewhat whimsical style that evokes a sense of joyfulness and curiosity.
This series of turtle paintings consists of original works on canvas, as well as small acrylic sketches on paper. Be sure to follow the event page on Facebook to see more as the date gets closer!
